i've always dreamed of being a circus performer but it was only a few months ago that i had the realization that absolutely nothing was stopping me from pursuing my dreams. it's not an easy dream for an clumsy eighteen year old afraid of heights with no background in gymnastics or dance. most of the time, i feel like i'm on an episode of Made, being transformed into a fundamentally opposite self for the purpose of entertainment. but i knew it was all worth it the first time i stepped off the trapeze platform and flew.
i will do my best to describe it haha i don’t know the names of most stretches. I start with a butterfly stretch, then i extend one leg and stretch down + towards my foot, and do the same on the opposite leg. Next I do a pike stretch, and then i do a deep lunge stretch on each side, after which I extend the front legĀ and stretch down towards that foot. I stretch each front split, stretch each front oversplit, then stretch each front split again. then I stretch my middle splits. moving on to back/arms: I do a seal stretch, then a cat stretch, then i sit with my legs beneath me, extending my arms, pushing off the ground with my fingers and down with my chest. I stretch my shoulders by holding onto a rope and moving it over my head and back, then I do a couple bridges. i have a few other shoulder/back stretches but they’re too hard to explain haha.
i hold all of these for at least one min, sometimes two or three. it takes me exactly an hour including a few warmup exercises, and i do this every day, although i’ve been slacking lately haha.
sorry this was so long ! and if you have any stretching tips i’d love to hear them, especiallly for back stretches :)
